    What Is Carbon Balanced Paper?

Carbon balanced paper doesn't just benefit the planet, it's good for your business too.

All eyes will be on Glasgow between 31th October and November 12th this year where Cop26, or the 26th meeting of the United Nations' Climate Change Conference, is set to take place, and the world leaders in attendance are expected to commit to increasing their efforts to slow down or prevent climate change.

Whether that will happen remains to be seen, but businesses have long understood the need to be more sustainable, particularly in the print and publishing industry. If you weren't aware, a revolution has been taking place over the past 20 years, and now's the ideal opportunity to be a part of it.

Many businesses are looking for sustainable solutions to their printing and packaging needs that are environmentally friendly, yet cost-effective alternatives to plastic yet it's been under their nose for millennia - paper.

It is one of the world's most sustainable products. Paper is made from a renewable source, is recyclable and biodegradable, and it also offers the perfect way to reduce a company's carbon footprint.

Many economies and industries are racing to shift to a low-carbon framework, either as part of efforts to mitigate climate change or to meet social governance targets and keep shareholders and consumers happy. No matter the reason, it's all good for the planet.

One of the easiest and most cost-efficient ways to reduce your impact on the environment is via carbon balancing, where the annual carbon output of a business is estimated and the same amount is prevented from being released into the atmosphere via reduction programmes and investing in offsets - eco-friendly projects that absorb or reduce CO2 emissions.

It sounds fairly complicated but when it comes to increasing your sustainability through your paper purchases, we can make the process a lot easier. The first place to start is our handy carbon calculator, which will indicate how much your business generates.

From there, you can choose from our wide range of papers and boards, all of which can be supplied carbon balanced (some of which are carbon balanced at source, such as our Revive range), equating the carbon footprint of one tonne of paper with one tonne of CO2 emissions removed through the Carbon Balanced Paper scheme.

It supports a designated World Land Trust project based on the REDD+ principles: it maintains and/or enhances forest biodiversity and ecosystem services.

The Carbon Balanced Paper scheme goes beyond merely reducing CO2 emissions, as it conserves and protects an area intensely rich in biodiversity and home to 41 threatened species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species.

As well as being great news for the environment, being part of the Carbon Balanced Paper scheme is also good for your business. You can proudly display the registered World Land Trust Carbon Balanced Paper logo on your printed media and communications, and being part of the scheme will enhance your environmental social responsibility reporting.

All of these benefits come without you having to lift a finger. Our team will guide you through our full range of carbon balanced-at source products, and can tell you more about the projects backed by the Carbon Balanced Paper scheme, information you can pass on to your customers, enabling them to feel proud that they're doing their bit for the planet.
